    Position Summary

    We are seeking an Electrical/Instrumentation Superintendent for the Mining & Metals team, based in Iquique, Chile. The purpose of this role is to be assigned to a field construction organization in a supervisory capacity. Responsible for supervising and directing operations within the assigned discipline or area. Supervises and directs craft activities, subordinate superintendents and others, as assigned. Ensures assigned construction operations and subcontractor performance are in line with specifications and schedules and budgets. Performs general duties inherent to all supervisory positions in the field.

    Essential Job Functions

    As an Electrical/Instrumentation Superintendent, you will be primarily responsible for:

  • The on-site construction operations within the assigned discipline or area.
  • Determining the labor needs. Coordinating the established area operational plans. Schedule the work that needs to be done and reviewing the work done by each trade. Supervising work activities and ensuring the quality of the work performed.
  • Ensuring that the most up-to-date design document is used to complete the work and that all design changes are approved prior to implementation.
  • Approving the time records of trades using the established automated tools.
  • Preparing reports and forecasts, including construction progress summary, artisan staff forecasts and expenditure forecasts.
  • Supervising the use of tools on the construction site. Preparing field material requests for tools and consumables and ensuring that artisans have the tools they need to be productive.
  • Supervising the activities of subcontractors to ensure compliance with specifications and schedules.
  • Is responsible for the implementation of corporate/project policies, procedures and instructions in assigned operations.
  • Coordinating the activities with other disciplines or areas and with the resident representatives of the clients, according to the instructions of the construction management.
  • Ensuring compliance with Bechtel's local and national safety codes, requirements and standards within the assigned area of responsibility. Ensuring that the zero-accident philosophy is incorporated into all aspects of construction operations. Actively participating in scheduled safety meetings.
  • What We Need from You

    We expect from the successful candidate of this position to have the following knowledge and/or experience in:

    Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, or specialized courses in construction technology and management.
  • 10 years of work experience leading to a thorough understanding of the knowledge described above.
  • Additional Qualifications

  • Knowledge of a single- or multi-disciplinary construction or engineering operation.
  • Knowledge of Bechtel's Zero-accident Philosophy.
  • Knowledge of the tools and methodologies of the Six Sigma program.
  • Knowledge of the supervisory functions related to field activities (site control, site progress and cost scheduling).
  • Knowledge of Standard Work Process Procedures (SWPP).
  • Computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets and database applications according to the current Bechtel Standard Application Program (BSAP) standards.
  • Demonstrated leadership in a team-working environment.
  • Knowledge of the use of subcontracts and the responsibilities of the contractor and subcontractor contained in the subcontracting documents.
  • Experience working with, supervising and managing subcontractors and/or directly contracted labor.
