    THE JOB

AFPTV Latin America is looking to recruit a motivated video journalist for a full-time position starting 1 May in its Santiago de Chile bureau.

Located in the Andean heart of Latin America, this region offers a wide variety of journalistic themes of international interest, from societal and economic issues to drug trafficking, politics, environment, natural disasters (earthquakes and volcanic eruptions), sport or culture (gastronomy, archaeology...). Coverage of the economy, including mining, is important in Chile, the headquarters of Cepal (Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean) and the only OECD member country in Latin America alongside Mexico.

You will produce fast-breaking news, high quality features and work at maintaining a pool of stringers in Chile. You will be in charge of developing our live coverage and develop a strong network to access third-party images. You must ensure the reliability of our news coverage and respect for the agency's editorial policy.

You must be ready to work long days and a wide range of hours, including early mornings and late nights, as well as weekends, and to be regularly on call. The job requires to travel when necessary, inside the country and across Latin America. You could be required to undertake reporting missions for news and feature stories in Bolivia under the authority of the Peru-Chile-Bolivia TV coordinator based in Lima.

You will work day-to-day under the authority of the Bureau Chief, the Peru-Chile-Bolivia coordinator based in Lima, and Head of AFPTV based in Montevideo. Excellent news judgment and strong editing skills are a must. You will also need to train stringers and bureau photographers, as well as be relentless and patient in getting information and contacts in a sometimes frustrating environment.

Candidates should bring a multi-media approach to the job and expect to coordinate closely with text reporters and photographers.

It is important to stress that all AFP journalists contribute to AFP's newsgathering process in all formats, working for the common goal of reacting and high-quality multimedia journalism. We do not work by silo or by product. Text journalists may write for the wire, but their journalism is vital for video dope sheets, picture captions and graphics. Our visual journalists also play a significant role in the gathering of information for the text wires.

In an ever-changing media environment, the nature of the job could evolve in line with coverage demands and the requirements of an increasingly diverse client base.

Planning being a fundamental part of your remit, you will ensure that events on AFP's integrated calendar system Iris360 are up to date to enable our clients and bureaus to plan for upcoming news events and their coverage.

As a general rule, you commit to respecting AFP's ethics charter as well as all the editorial guidelines in force and in AFP's stylebook. In addition, candidates should be familiar with the issues involved in handling user generated content and AFP's guidelines concerning the use of UGC.

You will closely monitor social media and strictly adhere to the Agency's guidelines on social media activity. You will contribute to the fight against misinformation by helping journalists that work on digital verification in the network and ensure you are trained in the various methods of online investigation, now indispensable for all journalists.
