The objective to which ILPES contributes is to enhance planning and public management processes in the region for the advancement of equitable and sustainable development.

Under this subprogramme, ECLAC supports the alignment of national development planning, public investment, and budgets with public measures and programmes for post pandemic recovery and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and contributes to the strengthening of state-of-the-art planning and public management for sustainable development among governments and other policy stakeholders across the region.


Responsibilities:

Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background, the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period.

The internship will specifically support the Public Investment and the Red SNIP Portal at the Regional Observatory on Planning for Development in Latin America and the Caribbean.


Daily duties include:

  • Carry out research on the governance of national public investment systems in Latin American and Caribbean countries using both primary and secondary sources.
  • Assist in the management and updating of the national public investment systems Portal and the RedSNIP Portal in the ILPES Regional Planning Observatory.
  • Analyze current trends and country specific experiences in the area of public investment systems, and produce drafts of texts, infographics, and other knowledge products in varying formats.
  • Prepare a variety of reports, presentations, tables, charts, lists, graphs, tables and/or diagrams for information and review by senior staff.
  • Prepare summaries and bibliographic descriptions for inclusion in papers, articles, books, and publications.
  • Support ILPES activities in support of the SNIP Network.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Education
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
(a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or,
(b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).

For this internship, university or higher-level studies in public administration, territorial development, public policy and/or social sciences is desirable.

Work Experience


For this internship, research experience in the field of social sciences is desirable, along with the elaboration and maintenance of qualitative and quantitative databases.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in Spanish is required. Knowledge of English is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language would be an asset.

"Fluency" equals a rating of ''fluent'' in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and ̈knowledge of ̈ equals a rating of ''confident'' in two of the four areas

The internship is UNPAID.

All costs of travel and accommodation, including living expenses, must be covered by the intern or any relevant sponsoring institution.
