Job Description:

The primary responsibility of the Head of the Civil Department is to lead the structural & geotechnical teams by supervising it and providing professional and proper feedback in both technical and performance issues according to the project requirements and our company values.

He/she also manages the design, analysis and construction of hydropower structures that can withstand various loads and pressures ensuring compliance with relevant building codes and safety regulations.

Responsibilities:

• Control and supervise the success of the projects within his/her department.
• Ensures the accuracy of technical documentation, such as drawings, specifications and reports for structural engineering projects.
• Designs loadbearing hydropower structures or structural elements of dams, energy plants and canals.
• Performs analysis of building materials for use in the construction.
• Develops technical specifications for use during construction and ensures all projects comply with applicable codes and regulations.
• Determines cause of structural failures, damages, and defects through site investigations.
• Provides reports detailing investigations and assessment of damages to the structure.
• Lead and direct the work of others.
• A wide degree of creativity and positive approach to work is expected.

Qualifications:

• Postdegree in Civil Engineering with specialization in Geotechnics or Structural Engineering
• PMP Certification is a plus.
• Senior level of experience in Hydropower and Renewables Energy projects.
• Experience in international projects.
• At least 10 years work experience in structural engineering
• Experience in project supervision will be a plus.
• Very good written and spoken command in Spanish and English.
• Assertiveness and proactivity
• Capable of setting priorities, and with the competency to multitask.
• Independent, hands on, focused.
• Communicative.

Additional Information

This position will be based in AFRY's office in Santiago, Chile for the Energy Business Unit, and its scope of work will be local and regional (Latin America).
