FUNCTIONS:


The Counsel as a key member of the Latam law department, the Counsel will serve as a key counselor to the General/Business Unit Manager and area directors on legal strategic and business issues.

As a member of the corporation's senior management, the Counsel will be an influential voice in significant policy decisions, providing legal perspective and advice to help achieve business objectives.

An important challenge of the Counsel will be to influence and shape the complex legal and regulatory environments in which the company operates, as well as to help initiate the appropriate internal strategies.

This is a significant management role that entails creative and cost-efficient alignment and management of external resources.


The Counsel will directly manage the most critical legal projects affecting the organization, such as litigation, regulatory, consumer claims and Compliance Matters and timely coordinating work and decisions with global experts on specific matters.

This Counsel will work with other Johnson Controls counsels in Latam to prepare reports and dashboards on corporate maintenance, contracts and deals, litigation, IP, law enforcement, and other legal matters.


The Counsel's scope of work shall include: prioritizing and handling key transactional and regulatory issues, including general contract issues, mergers, acquisitions, and other general business issues; formulating, implementing and leading efforts to enact procedures consistent with Johnson Controls' policies; coordinating with external counsel, other parties and their representatives; developing excellent working relationships with local management and staff, and corporate and segment legal and business staff; developing excellent internal networks to obtain the appropriate legal and/or business input to provide the support and formulate the strategies to address key local legal and regulatory issues.


In addition, the Counsel will monitor and track all litigation matters, providing recommendations for management and avenues of action, review and report developments, conduct litigation audits and prepare complete, accurate reports, prepare and analyze statistical data, conduct fact investigations, review discovery documents, pleadings and other responses required by court, agency or commission, and in general research issues concerning litigation.


The Counsel shall also lead the local Board of Director Meetings, implementing governance principles to the local country operations to achieve strategic alignment, organizational agility and shared purpose for sustained organizational performance, ensuring compliance and transparency.

HOW WILL YOU DO IT?

  • Identify, analyze and prioritize legal and regulatory issues affecting JCI
  • Identify emerging legislative and regulatory issues that may impact various JCI businesses and advise the appropriate businesses and/or legal colleagues
  • Develop and coordinate a network of external law firms and professional in order to provide timely and effective legal advice
  • Develop excellent internal networks and working relationships with key business leaders to fully understand JCI business concerns
  • Other miscellaneous duties as assigned within the local, regional and global law department

REQUIREMENTS:


  • Experienced (710 years) attorney qualified to practice in Chile. Experience as inhouse in multinationals companies or big Law Firm.
  • One or more master's degrees.
  • Fluency in English (level advanced)
  • Portuguese is a plus.
  • Demonstrable experience driving results and continuous improvement in contracts management, collections, and recoveries.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience advising on legal matters relating to construction projects, buildings equipment, installation and services agreements, and fire and security monitoring businesses is highly desirable.
  • Proficient in use of word processing and other data processing programs, especially Word, Power Point and Excel.

Skills/Knowledge Required

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills with proven ability to produce effective communications materials using superior writing, organization and influencing skills, including a demonstrated ability to distill large amounts of research into concise, influential communications.
  • Proven analytical skills that can be applied to shape the company's response to key legal issues or to develop company initiatives in the legislative and/or regulatory arenas.
  • Proven strategic view and analysis for key critical issues affecting the business.
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective coalitions and teams.
  • Strong negotiation/influencing skills, including ability to persuade people with different views to adopt or implement industry positions consistent with JCI view points.
