Since 1962, UCEAP has supported this mission, serving some 100,000 students across all 10 UC campuses and over 32,000 international exchange students.

Sustained by strong academic excellence, spirited faculty collaboration and an interrelated support system, UCEAP produces future global citizens and thought leaders.


The UCEAP Chile/Argentina Study Center, located in Santiago, Chile, provides academic and student welfare support to approximately 100 University of California students per year participating in academic exchange programs in Chile and Argentina.

Under the supervision of the Study Center Program Manager, the Program Assistant serves as the first point of contact for providing general information to UC program participants and performs a range of administrative and student support duties including general office and clerical support, academic administration, housing coordination, and events support.

This position participates in an emergency response on-call rotation outside of regular business hours and requires occasional evening and weekend availability for student activities.


Requirements:


Knowledge and Skills (typically required of the position)

  • Language: fluency in speaking/writing English and Spanish. High level of fluency in written and conversational English since the position involves substantial contact with U.S. undergraduate students.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Multicultural competencies; ability to develop a positive rapport and work with diverse populations.
  • Personable, enthusiastic, and interested in international exchange programs.
  • Proven customer service skills and ability to remain calm and collected in challenging situations.
  • Basic knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
  • Demonstrated initiative and proactive approach working both independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience in office environment and basic administrative functions.
  • Awareness of critical academic/administrative deadlines and a broad knowledge of university/campus environment.
  • Basic knowledge of American and Chilean higher education environments.
  • Skill in prioritizing numerous tasks to maintain organization and efficiency in completing work accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and security of privileged information.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Desirable:


  • Administrative/student affairs experience in a higher education setting.
  • Basic knowledge of American higher education environments.
  • Experience planning events such as student orientations.
  • Experience studying or living abroad.
  • Basic understanding of the safety, security, and health issues, as they affect students abroad.

Education and Training

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training

Other Special Conditions of Employment

  • Must have preexisting authorization to live and work in Chile to be considered.
  • Satisfactory completion of a background check is required.
  • Must be available to travel 010%, work occasional evenings and weekends, and participate in an afterhours oncall rotation to respond to student emergencies.
