Electrical Engineer


WSP Caribbean Limited (WSP) provides consultancy services within the Caribbean region, specializing in project management, architecture design, engineering design (civil, structural, mechanical and electrical), and land use planning services.

WSP is locally dedicated with international scale, being a part of one of the world's leading engineering professional services consulting firms, employing approximately 66,300 people.


The Electrical Engineer is expected to work closely as part of a multi-disciplinary team on projects focused on sustainability and energy performance of the built environment.

Projects involve electrical systems design including power distribution, emergency power systems, lighting, fire alarm, communications, and site electrical systems for commercial, industrial and other facilities.

The EE must comply with company policies and procedures and relevant engineering, safety and environment standards in the conduct of their work and is expected to exercise strong initiative, with excellent analytical and communication skills.


Key Responsibilities:


1 Design of electrical systems including: power distribution systems, lighting, fire alarm, emergency power systems, low voltage/telecom infrastructure, and UPS design.


2 Provide electrical design expertise on single and multi-disciplinary projects; taking lead on small to medium size engineering design projects and support larger projects.


3 Design requirements include engineering calculations, construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, schedules, record drawings, material submittal reviews, construction inspection and development of construction programming documents.


4 Perform field assessments, site investigations, inspections, facility condition assessment and sustainable infrastructure assessments


6 Provide technical assistance on innovative and sustainable engineering design.


7 Communicate effectively with all external and internal stakeholders.


8 Produce effective and accurate written documents, reports, and technical memoranda


9 Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise analysis and reporting.


10 Review electrical designs and specifications prepared by external consultants


11 Review shop drawings and as-built drawings


12 Participate in design / constructability reviews, risk assessments, etc


13 Capture and communicate electrical design and engineering lessons learned for projects


14 Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs


Educational:

  • Bachelor's or Higher Degree from a recognized University in Electrical Engineering
  • BOETT registration or equivalent would be an asset

Skills:
— Minimum of 7 years' experience

  • Knowledge of electrical design standards, specifications, codes, regulations and appropriate safety criteria
  • Ability to read and understand drawings, contract plans and specifications
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to projectspecific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Proficient in REVIT / AutoCAD or other design software
  • Excellent analytical, verbal, written, interpersonal and communication skills and ability to express ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and nonengineering audience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
  • Proven ability to work effectively both independently and in a teambased environment
  • Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities
  • Capable selfleadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multitasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously.
  • Analytical mindset with an ability to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations and making decisions.
